New Year, New Goals

Finally getting your thoughts on paper (or screen) is a great New Year's Resolution to make. New year, new writing goals. I have to admit, I am jealous of some of my writing friends. They seem to be able to stream words on the page, pumping out book after book and I have struggled to have a moment to do this blog post.

It isn't that they are less busy, maybe more talented or prolific. Maybe they just have to more than I do because they make money doing their writing, whereas my writing doesn't sell. I still have something to say though. Saying something in this world is meaningful no matter how much you are paid for it. The thing is it takes time. Precious time. A commodity that is easy to give away. There is so much that needs to be done in a day and the days slip away. Don't let your days slip away. If you have something to say, get it down. Whether it is a screen, a page, a journal, a video. Say it before it is too late.

That may sound nihilistic. But the truth is that we will all die one day and many of us will have been too busy with everything else but writing. Everything else besides saying what we wanted to say. Letting that genie that is bottled inside of us out and into the world. That is a shame and no one can control that except ourselves. You, and me. Writers not writing. It wears on you. Being a creative person who doesn't create makes a person dark and hopeless. Because that is what we are made to do. Anyone not doing what they are made to do gets hostile after awhile. Your genie needs an outlet. So make a goal. Make a plan. Make time. This is the year. New year, new goals! Let's make it happen.
